8 Months!

Wow, I cannot believe Hannah is 8 months already! She's going to be a year before I know it!! Well, Kevin's only been gone for two weeks but I feel like my little baby has changed sooo much in that time! She's all the time sitting up on her knees at things and just this week starting to pull up to standing! She zips around crawling and ever so quietly gets into things. I'm going to have to be careful with her because she's so quiet and sneaky! And just yesterday I noticed her first two teeth are coming through! And finally FINALLY she's starting to do a lot better with food. She's still not a great eater, but we're definitely making progress! So far she's had sweet potatoes, squash, carrots, bananas, bread, goldfish, and fruit puffs. She seems to really like sweet potatoes because she actually opens her mouth a little bit for the spoon with those, and she also does pretty well with carrots. So for lunch and dinner we start with a little bit of baby food, until she's done with that, and then she eats on puffs for the rest of the meal time while the rest of us eat. She does really well with them now, and it's fun for her to start participating in meal time instead of just sitting there with us! Sooo, hopefully the food will help her sleep better at night. She's still been waking up 3 or 4 times most nights, starting as early as 10:30 or 11:00 pretty consistently. We shall see what this next month brings!

I love how she crinkles her nose sometimes when she smiles!

Laundry basket fun!

For a lot of the afternoon today the kids were having fun actually playing with each other and following each other around the house. Here they are having loads of fun with the laundry basket!

Job Update

No real news because nothing's really been happening. But I at least wanted to report that since I know a lot of you have been wondering. Kevin had his interview in Nebraska two weeks ago and he still has to take a test (math sort of thing) before we know if he'd be accepted. They do the test in groups though, so I think what we're waiting on is to hear when the next testing period will be, and then once he takes that, we'll know if he can be hired. So that's the news for now!

Small-town parade!

Last week was Band Day for the local middle and high school marching bands. The town had a parade with all the bands and floats and all the typical parade shananagans. It was a great little outing for a cool fall morning! My mom and brother were also with us for the day!

Fun in the park

One great thing about moving is getting to check out all new parks! As soon as I got Hannah down for a nap, my brother Paul and I took Eli (and bear) to the park while my dad manned the baby monitor! He (Eli, not the bear) was in definite of activity! Since this was the only stroller we had with us that day, Bear filled in for Hannah. Check out the pics...

Love that smile! One of the structures that's been there since I was a kid.A little play house.I think this train is seriously cool!

My new favorite pic of Eli!Just a fun shot of Paul swinging.
Paul was showing Eli all the different kinds of leaves on the trees. The fact that Eli was actually letting Paul pick him up was kind of a big step!
When we got back Hannah was awake and Eli wanted "more ride" so we traded out the bear for my sweet girl and continued on. And yes, Eli's supposed to actually be sitting backwards, but he likes it this way, so whatever. I just be sure to drive carefully so he doesn't fall. LOVE this stroller, by the way, but you'll be hearing about that another time.
COMING SOON... pictures from a local parade!

Prayer Requests

Just thought I'd post an updated list of prayer requests now that we've been back for a couple weeks now...
* Pray for Eli. He's got a lot going on right now with being away. He's been to a lot of places, seen a lot of new faces, daddy's gone, he's got several molars coming through, and he's 2, so he's pretty cranky. He's clinging to me like crazy and though my family wants to help out, Eli won't let them. He doesn't want anyone else to put his shoes on but MOMMY, or anyone else to fill his milk or juice cup but MOMMY, or anyone else to push the stroller but MOMMY or anyone else to take him outside but MOMMY or anyone else to buckle him in his booster seat or car seat but MOMMY. I am the only constant in all of this change, so he's super attached which is hard on him and annoying for me. He's not around his normal play area and doesn't always have things to keep him entertained so some days he's just bouncing off the walls and rowdy and even when we take him outside a lot, he's still just bonkers when we come back in! He's been so good about naps and bedtime though, doesn't ever have trouble adjusting to his new bedding situations whether he's by himself or a sharing a room with all of us. And he does love having the family around, but not when it comes to the things he usually does with mommy.

* And in turn pray for me to be gentle and patient with Eli though it's as frustrating and irritating as it is.

* Pray for little Hannah. Not sure what's going on but a few weeks ago she started waking up quite a bit at night, sometimes 3 or 4 times! And now that we've been staying with other families or sharing rooms, I just want her to stay quiet and go back to sleep so I've just been feeding her a little instead of trying to rock her or letting her cry at all. I just don't really know why she's waking up and I'm so frustrated because she slept soooo well the first 5 months of her life. Pray that she starts sleeping better. And also pray that she'll start taking food. We've been trying for almost 2 months now for her to take cereal and baby food but she just doesn't have any interest. She won't open her mouth for anything! So far we've done rice cereal, bananas, sweet potatoes, squash, and bread. We've tried the baby food variety and even the real deal, and just haven't had any success! And I don't know if that would help her sleep better if she was getting food!

* Continue to pray for Kevin's job search that God would soon lead us to where He would have us.

* Pray for my grandparent's travels. They were here visiting from North Carolina for a couple weeks and just started the long drive back across the States.

* We're thankful for how God has provided for us during these two weeks so far, and we're thankful for the time we've had with friends and family! Thanks for all your prayers! Until next time....

Nebraska report.

1) Interview went pretty well on Tuesday though Kevin didn't feel real great about it. He has to take a knowledge test, so they might fly him back out in the next three weeks so he can take that. Then once results of the test are in, hopefully we'll hear something about whether he got a job there or not. He thinks if he does well on the test, he probably has about a 75% chance of getting the job. The plant is filling a new class right now and he's the first to interview for the new class. So that will make a difference in how fast we hear back. While we're anxious to get answers, they're just getting started in the process.

2) The area wasn't too bad at all. There were actually several fast-food places in the town and a Pamida and even a teeny movie theater. Nice park and even a small aquatic center with water slides n stuff for the summer. Then half-hour away there's the bigger town with more things like Walmart, haha, though we didn't get a chance to check out that town. And Omaha is just over an hour and so is Lincoln.

3) We looked at a few houses and found an old farm house with 2 acres we really liked. it was very well kept and doesn't really need immediate fixing though there were several things I would change to make it "ours". Basically, it has a barn, two medium-sized sheds, a huge lawn with beautiful grass, 4 bedrooms, 1 full bath and a partial bath, an attic upstairs that could actually be turned into a real neat play area or school room, and a screened-in porch perfect for a swing. it just seemed like it had a LOT of potential and Kevin's always wanted to live in the country. It's on a gravel road but only a mile or less until pavement (which makes a big difference in the Iowa winter!!) So we'll just wait and see. Seems like other people might also be interested so by the time we get there, it might be under contract already. There's still a lot more there we didnt' have time to see though, so we'll be sure to check all our options.

4) We loved getting to hang out with our Navy friends who also just recently got out and were hired there in Nebraska. Even with their four young children they were still willing to house us too for the two days and it was so much fun for all the kids to play together. We can't wait to see more of them whether we live there or are just visiting!

Hanna (4)
Kiera (almost 3)
Owen (10 months), you can't tell from this picture but this boy has beautiful blue eyes!

You can't have beards in the Navy, but now that he's out Craig's sporting the new look.

Just some background, Craig and Kevin went through most of their Navy time together. Right after boot camp they met at nuke school in South Carolina. Then they both got sent to the same ship U.S.S. George Washington (air craft carrier) where they were for 5 years including two deployments. And then Craig and his wife (n kids) were transferred back to South Carolina and we were transferred to Connecticut. And now we're all getting out around the same time, and they're also from Iowa moving back just ahead of us.

So that's the update on Nebraska. Now today Kevin is flying back to CT for his last 3 weeks of work and to finish off the moving. And I'll just be hanging out at my parents' house with the kids. We have several things planned though so I don't think we'll get too bored. =) I'll go down to their house house (where they currently live) on the weekends and I'll have internet access then but otherwise I won't have anything since Kevin's taking the laptop back with him. The kids are doing amazing through all of the changes, though I'm a bit stressed figuring out their schedules and having to pack up n go all the time. So hopefully we'll be able to settle down for a couple weeks!

Keep a prayin'! We appreciate you all thinking of us and supporting us as we go through this big transition!
