Prayer Request

Ever since we got back to Iowa 3, almost 4 months ago, I've been having real troubles with my eyes. About every 4 or 5 days or so my eyes get very very red, mostly just the left eye with a little bit in the right. When they're bad they burn a little bit, but mostly they get very sensitive to light, and even inside or with dim lights it just seems so bright and I can barefly open my eyes. Even with sunsglasses I'm squinting. It's hard to look upward, or they just sting. And I've noticed lately that when I take my contacts out after they've been red all day there's a white film of goo on them. I've tried and tried to connect it to something, to find some pattern, wehter it's a makeup or face wash or where I've been or just plain allergies, and I just can't figure it out. And like most pain, the more I think about it, the more it hurts. Clear Eyes drops help some, but it burns to hold my eyes open like that to get them in, plus the anxiety and anticipation of waiting for the drop to fall on my eyeball just about kills me in itself, or so it seems. But I have been doing the drops anyway. I can't not wear my contacts either. The most I can do is maybe two hours. Don't know why but I just can't see out of my glasses. Even with up-to-date lenses, everything's still so blurry, not to mention that I don't have any peripheral vision. For those of you who understand bad eyes, my prescription is -8, folks. I've got bad eyes. I'm used to that, but this red eye business I can hardly bear anymore. Now that we're finally moved and have insurance and an income, I'm going to try to get to the eye doctor this week. Not sure what I'm going to do with the kids, but somehow I've get to get this taken care of. So please pray that it will clear up for me this week, that I'll find some answers from a doctor, and that I'll figure out what to do with the kids. Thank you, hopefully there will be a good report soon!

Prayers for your eyes, Sarah!
And that someone will be able to help you with the kids.

Sarah, I'm not a doctor but it sounds like a simple eye infection. Have you tried not wearing your contacts for several days and see if that helps? If you have an infection the doc can give you antibiotic eye drops. My husband used to wear contacts and this happened to him.

Oh yuck. Sarah, if you need me to, I can drive to you to watch your kids. I am off this Wednesday or Friday. I would be happy to help you.

Hi there, Sarah...

I definitely know what you mean about baaaaaad eyes. I had a -12 left eye and a -10.5 right eye for a looooong time. I finally had saved and saved and saved and got myself Lasik surgery because I just couldn't take being basically blind anymore. Unfortunately my persciption was sooo bad it didn't take and I'm back to a -4 already. So yes, back in contacts after 2 years of seeing 20/20 :(

So Yes, my friend, I know what you mean when you say you cannot go without your contacts and just wear glasses. Somehow it's just NOT the same.

I find though now that I've had the surgery my eyes are more dry then they used to be. I'm not one for using drops either, but after lots of trial and error have found that "Refresh Tears" (a greenish teal color bottle) are the absolute best and do not burn at all! They are quite soothing actually. Might want to try a brand change from what you've been using.

My other suggestion would be getting one of those silly over the counter eyewash cup thingys. You can find them at most any drugstore. I had something in my eye at some point and my eye doc suggested since she couldn't find it to just try rinsing 2xs a day with this eyewash cup and try to flush it out. Must have worked because I was not itching and back to normal in about 2-3 days.

I'm sure you've already thought of this, but perhaps you're contact has a tear. Are they dailies or weekly ones? Try a new pair perhaps.

Just some suggestions until you can get an appointment. Good Luck. Sorry I'm not around to help out by watching the kids for you when you need to run out. Maybe someone at the new church you find could help out there. :)

Thinking of you.

I wear glasses and have notice an improvement in my eyes when I drink plenty of water. It sounds like dehydration. Also, the stress of moving, new job, house hunting, moving again, not to mention the everyday of being a mom!! I take B vitamins-mainly from the organic molasses (it is amazing how many different vitamins and minerals are in it!!) Here's a link that I refer to when I have similar "weird" things.

Just cure the problem rather than get a band-aid for symptoms.
Hope this helps.

I know this sounds absolutely crazy, but I had this to happen about 5 years ago. It turned out to be my birth control pills.

It sounds like you've gotten a lot of suggestions! Just a thought - I used to be rather prone to eye infections, and my eye doctor had me change my solution to Clear Care (it's the type where you have to leave them in solution for a minimum of 6 hours) - it's essentially a hydrogen peroxide solution that has to neutralize over that time period. It helped out a ton for preventing more infections! Best of luck - I'll be thinking about you!

I know you have gotten lots of suggestions...When I married and moved 4 hours north of where I grew up, I found that I could wear my contacts without using drops constantly.. So it may just be a change in enviroment... Whatever it is, I pray that you are able to get it fixed. I dont like not being able to see either and I cant stand to wear my glasses....

Blessings
Crystal.

PS..I love the pics of your new house, it sounds so wonderful...hope Kevin is enjoying his new job..and that the kids settle in okay.
